Spot Reduction
One of the top ten questions being asked is, "How do I get rid of this belly fat?" Companies that are making and
promoting an "Ab"-whatever you want to call it are raking in the money claiming to reduce that belly fat and give
you rock hard abs. This couldn't be further from the truth. You only need to know and understand some things about
the human body.
It doesn't work because of the fat over the muscle. If someone that has belly fat does a lot of crunches every
day, they may get slightly stronger abdominal muscles, but the fat will still cover them and their abs won't look
any different. Approximately 50% of body fat is located right under the skin. The rest of it lies inside the
muscle. You need to get rid of the fat first!
Getting rid of belly fat is all about cardio exercise such as aerobics, playing sports, jogging, walking,
swimming or riding a bike. Raising your heart rate and keeping it there for 20 minutes will help to burn fat and
also condition your heart.
If you add toning to your cardio you will make your body more effective in burning fat and in turn will speed up
the process to reach your goal. It is important to work all the major muscle groups, not just your abs, as this
will add even more mass to your muscles. You can't just take fat from one part of your body unless you are going to
have liposuction as body fat is like one organ that is throughout your body.
Doing sit-ups or crunches will work the abdominal muscle that is the largest. However, you will also have to
incorporate ab exercises to include your obliques and your lower abdominal muscles as well.
Walking is a great way to work all the areas of your abdominals. Making sure you swing your arms and contract
your midsection as you walk briskly for at least 30 minutes.
Training with weights helps to strengthen bones and speed up metabolism. Adding muscle adds more energy. Yoga
can be great for the back and abs as it is highly effective at strengthening the body.
